      Producer Information

Jean-Baptiste Gasparoux was born in 1874 in Davignac, the village where Jean Gaye-Bordas was also born, the very first of the Corrze merchant-travelers, the man behind the fabulous story of Meymac-prs-Bordeaux. Confronted like so many others at that time with the harshness of life on the beautiful but poor Plateau de Millevaches, Jean-Baptiste, thus participating in the exodus from Corrze, also set off on the roads to sell wine, and established in 1902 as a merchant in Libourne. In 1934, Fernand Gasparoux, a merchant like his father, realized his dream of also becoming a winemaker. He then bought Chteau Ferrand, a small property in Pomerol of around 3.5 hectares. Over the years, the property has grown, both in terms of surface area reaching approximately 12 hectares today and in terms of notoriety. In love with his adopted terroir, in 1975 he managed to acquire a few hectares of vines on the prestigious Pomerol plateau, and thus created Chteau Haut Ferrand. In 1981, Fernand’s son, Henry, became the manager of the estate. Professor of physics and chemistry at the University of Bordeaux, then director of the National School of Chemistry and Physics of Bordeaux, he carried out his two activities simultaneously for almost 20 years, until his university retirement in 2001. Since then, he has devoted himself entirely to the property. Development of the sales network, renovation of buildings, modernization of winemaking equipment, construction of reception areas, the property then underwent a great evolution, while maintaining a human scale and a family vision of the company. In 2018, the property is making further progress and is committed to the establishment of wine tourism. In 2021, at 83 years old, with the help of his two sons Jean-Pascal and Philippe, he still watches over his vineyard with passion. The fifth generation of Gasparoux is now also represented, in the person of Matthieu Gasparoux, agronomist and oenologist. Three generations work together today, to combine tradition and modernity, and perpetuate the history of the Gasparoux family in Pomerol. This family history would have no future without the men and women who, through the quality of their work, allow the property to exist. The family is proud to present its team to you: Brengre Cariteau, administrative and wine tourism manager; Mathieu Garcia, responsible for viticulture; Denis Gombeau, cellar manager; Stphanie Loreau, versatile wine worker and Jrmie Rainaud, work-study worker as part of his training.
