Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Bourbon Port Wine Barrel Finished 2023 Tasting Notes

Nose: Begins with hints of leather, brown sugar and caramel, followed by crme brle, marshmallow, green apple and citrus orange.

Palate: Apples, caramel, and brown sugar. The creaminess pairs with orange from the nose, creating a dessert-like richness. Vanilla, toasted oak and black pepper spice round it out.

Finish: Slight fruitiness and grape tannic notes with a lingering spice.

Distillery Information

Angel’s Envy is the brand of Louisville Distilling Co., a Kentucky-based blender and bottler of whiskeys, founded by Lincoln Henderson in 2011. Today, the company remains within the family, headed by Henderson’s son and grandson. Angel’s Envy was one of the first bourbon producers in America to utilize the double-maturation aging process. The Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon is finished aging in a port wine cask of which imparts distinct flavor nuances to the whiskey. Each whiskey by Angel’s Share is produced in small batches of 8 to 12 barrels at a time. Prior to release, barrel-aging occurs for 18 months to 6 years depending on the expression. Each year, 5-percent is lost to evaporation of which is also known as the ‘Angel’s Share’. In 2015, the company was acquired by Bacardi, making its first full-scale foray into Bourbon whiskey having previously had an investment role in the foundation of the company.
