Producer Information
Roger Sabon is a family-owned estate in Chteauneuf-du-Pape, with a range based around four different red Chteauneuf cuves. The estate has 16 hectares (39.5 acres) under vine in Chteauneuf-du-Pape of which 15 are planted to red varieties, including Grenache, Syrah and Mourvdre. Winemaking is traditional with aging in a mix of barrels and vats of various sizes and ages. While the Prestige cuve may be the flagship in terms of availability and quality-price ratio, Le Secret des Sabon is widely regarded as one of the best reds in the region made largely from century-old Grenache vines, its price reflects its reputation. There is also a white Chteauneuf-du-Pape, a red Lirac and Ctes du Rhne. On top of this, Roger Sabon also owns 17ha (42 acres) of land in the southern Rhne, making wines under the Ctes du Rhne and Lirac appellations. Three Vins de France round out the portfolio. The Sabon family can trace their roots in the Southern Rhne valley all the way back to 1540, though the first vintage bottled by the estate in something like its modern form was 1921.
