Producer Information
Chteau Meyney is an estate in Saint-Estphe. Formed as an ecclesiastical vineyard in 1662, it is one of the oldest estates in the Mdoc, although its modern history began in 1917 when it was acquired by the Cordier family. The vineyard is contained in a single 126 acres (51 hectare) site, which is unusual for a estate of this size. It is planted with around 60 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 30 percent Merlot and ten percent Petit Verdot with the typical Meyney blend reflecting these proportions. Depending on the vintage, the wine is aged for 16 to 24 months in French barriques. A second wine, Prieur de Meyney, is made from the younger vines on the estate. The estate was bought in 2004 by Crdit Agricole Grands Crus, whose other properties including Grand-Puy Ducasse in Pauillac and Chteau de Rayne Vigneau in Sauternes. Many critics feel the best wines produced at Meyney date from this recent period.
