        Producer Information

Chteau Sigalas Rabaud is a Premier Cru Class (First Growth) wine estate in the Sauternes appellation of Bordeaux, producing both the classic sweet white wines associated with the region and a number of dry whites, all predominantly made from the Smillon grape. The estate lies in the northern Bommes commune of the wider Sauternes appellation. The 14-hectare (35-acre) estate is the smallest of the Sauternes first growths and is planted predominantly to Smillon (85 percent). The remaining 15 percent of the vineyard is given over to Sauvignon Blanc, which is found in some of the wines. Neighbors include first growth stablemates Chteau Lafaurie-Peyraguey to the southeast and Rayne Vigneau to the southwest. The estate produces two sweet white wines made from botrytised (or “noble rot”-affected) grapes. The “grand vin” contains a minimum of 90 Smillon (with the remainder Sauvignon Blanc) while the estate’s second wine, Le Lieutenant de Sigalas generally shows a slightly higher portion of Sauvignon Blanc, although Smillon still accounts for around 80 percent of the composition. A further three dry white wines are made. These are headed-up by La Smillante de Sigalas, which is 100 percent Smillon and partially barrel-fermented. La Demoiselle de Sigalas is the second dry white wine of the property and is a blend of around 70 percent Smillon and 30 percent Sauvignon Blanc. The Le 5 label is also a blend, albeit with around 85 percent Smillon, and is made without added sulphites.
