The molasses soils combined with asteriated limestone give the wines power and tension, as well as a deep meatiness. The ancient colluvial soils containing silt add a touch of lightness whilst retaining the mineral tension from the limestone.

      Producer Information

Chteau Pavie Macquin is a producer in the Saint-milion appellation with premier grand cru class B status. It is under current ownership of the Corre-Macquin family. Located in Saint-milion the right bank of Bordeaux, the Grand Vin of Pavie Macquin is a Merlot-dominant Bordeaux red blend with a small amount of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. A second wine is produced under the Les Chnes de Macquin label that translates to “the Oaks of Macquin”. Originally, Chteau Pavie Macquin was part of the estate of the 19th Century ngociant Ferdinand Bouffard. It was bought by Albert Macquin, who achieved individual acclaim as a pioneer in the use of grafted roots stocks to combat the phylloxera epidemic. Pavie Macquin now borders two other Pavie estates, Chteau Pavie and Chteau Pavie-Decesse, which are both owned by Grard Perse. During the 1990s, the quality of Chteau Pavie Macquin improved significantly. This was attributed to the additions of Stphane Derencourt and Nicolas Theinpont to the winemaking team. As a result, the chteau was promoted from grand cru class to premier grand cru class B in the controversial 2006 review of the Saint-milion classifications. After several other producers challenged the impartiality of the judges, the classification was declared void in 2009 and the 1996 review was to be used. In 2012, a new classification maintained the premier grand cru class B status of Pavie Macquin (however this too has been challenged).
