Ron Santiago de Cuba 20 Year Old Extra Anejo Gran Reserva Rum | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Prunes, dried apple chips, and stewed stone fruits join fragrant oak, with coffee and walnut cake, caramelised biscuits, and candied almonds.

Palate: Superbly soft, with nutty oak and toasted marzipan, treacle tart, and creamy chocolate. Drying spice nestles in the depths, with rich cacao in tow.

Finish: Dark chocolate and maple syrup linger, with coffee ice cream, oak char, delicate spice, toasted vanilla, and an elegant touch of leather.

Distillery Information

Ron Santiago de Cuba is the second-largest premium Cuban rum (no prizes for guessing what the first is) founded 1862 in the oldest city of Cuba, which is also called Santiago de Cuba. Presumably, thats where the name comes from. In the 1959 revolution, Cubas rum industry was nationalised and Ron Santiago de Cuba rums began to be made by the state at the former Matusalem distillery in Cubas Sierra Maestra region from sugarcane molasses. Its standard expressions include a Carta Blanca and an Aejo bottling, but Ron Santiago de Cuba also has a habit of making some exceptional Extra Aejos.
